What happens when you bring over 2000 Primary School children together at a park in Aberdeen and ask them to make a lot of noise?
The answer is THE BIG SING.
We were delighted to be asked by Aberdeen City Council to film this first-time event – the BIG SING at Duthie Park.
Over the course of three musical performances, more than 2000 primary school children came out to perform to their friends and family. Each group sang three joyous songs complete with accompanying choreography. Despite the cold weather conditions, another few hundred friends and families were also there to support, encourage and enjoy the performances, as well as many bemused passers-by!
This is the first ever annual Big Sing, which was conceived by members of Aberdeen City Council and Robert Gordon’s College. All the children were Primary 4 pupils from schools around the city, who had been asked to learn three songs (“Happy Song”, “Power in Me” and Bruno Mars’ “Count on me”).
They included the School for the Deaf who were able to participate thanks to a British Sign Language interpreter who joined the conductor to sign along with the songs.
Each group was organised into a large semi-circle, either side of the park’s beautiful Victorian bandstand, which was occupied for the day by a band comprised of Aberdeen’s talented Music Service staff.
Robert Gordon’s Pipe and Drum Band opened for each group of performers with a selection of traditional tunes, before the talented conductor took the children through some warmup exercises and the show was ready to start!
When Aberdeen City Council initially reached out to us, they were looking for some drone photography of the event.
After a discussion about the scale of the project, we suggested filming with more cameras and producing a highlights video to capture the energy and scale of the event.
The result is a dynamic mix of drone footage, 4K cameras, and GoPro footage.
With so many children, parents and teachers present, we did not want to miss a thing.
Our team had a wonderful time on this shoot. We even got to show off our newly branded van – the Signalmobile!
We look forward to working with Aberdeen City Council in the future.
