We had already worked several times for Robert Gordon University when they contacted us about a slightly more unusual project…
The RGU Health and Social care team had been developing a database of training courses within the care sector in Northeast Scotland. They wanted to create an online portal where interested people could easily access information about higher/further education for the care sector.
The target audience was very wide: from school leavers to people in other sectors looking for a complete change of career, to existing carers looking to improve their skills or take on more responsibility.
We entered into a scoping process to establish how these courses would be collated and filtered, then designed an easy-to-use website that allowed each user type to select their own learning criteria, in order to locate courses that suited their specific needs.
An engaging and friendly interface was designed that takes the user on a colourful ‘pathway’ to discover the most appropriate course options to fit their circumstances. This design work included the incorporation of over 80 courses from learning institutions throughout the region, plus a ‘back end’ interface that would allow the RGU team to easily update course information.
Finally, we produced a short marketing animation to explain and promote the site, and two case study films profiling two carers that had already taken courses to improve their caring skills.
The website, now called Care To Learn, went live in November and has been well received. If successful, it may be expanded to include other regions in Scotland.
