Thistle Seafoods – Premium Marketing

It’s already been a busy year for Signal and we’re only in February! In addition to our various other projects, we’ve also just delivered a Marketing Film for premium seafood manufacturer Thistle Seafoods in Peterhead.

This was our first time working with Thistle and from day one they had a very clear vision of how they wanted the film to look and the message they wanted to put across.

So, it was up to us to deliver to their same high standards.

Pre-production started in 2024 and as with any filming that takes place at a working business, logistics had to be managed to ensure that we could capture everything we needed without impacting the day to day running of their operations.

Filming took place at their sites in Peterhead and Uddingston and allowed us to capture a mix of personnel in the office, their product line, as well as the busy fish markets and harbours where Thistle source their products.

Filming food can be tricky, as our cameraman Greg Thom describes “Filming inside a high-speed food production facility comes with its own set of challenges. Navigating a fast-paced environment while maintaining strict hygiene protocols meant wearing factory coats, hairnets, and overshoes, all while carefully handling cinema-grade cameras and lenses.

One of the highlights was shooting close-up macro shots of their renowned melt-in-the-middle fishcakes, capturing the rich, golden breadcrumb crunch and the slow, gooey cheese as it was cut open. Using a combination of macro lenses and controlled lighting, we made sure every detail popped on screen, showcasing the texture and quality of the product.”

The narrator is the talented award-winning actor, and comedian Lewis MacLeod, also known for his exceptional work in Star Wars, notably portraying SEBULBA in The Phantom Menace. All the hard work paid off and the result is a beautiful, high-quality film that the client is delighted with.
