Following a successful trip to France in 2022, the Signal team were invited back by Chevron to continue our work on the Piloting Project. The Piloting Project is a consortium that was started to create and test robots to be used in civil construction & refineries, to help repair aging infrastructure.

Like last year the Piloting project took place at Chevron Oronite’s Gonfreville facility in Northern France. The facility played host to twelve research teams from around Europe who have developed specially equipped aerial drones, or robots that can climb inside narrow spaces and around piping. These innovative technologies will be used in high-risk areas, such as oil refineries to “automise and utilise inspection procedures” which will “increase the safety of the procedures, decrease the cost, and increase the quality of the information acquired”.

We captured these activities using our high quality 4K filming equipment, Sony FX6 and Sony A7SIII cameras. From the footage, we created a series of Robotic Experiment films that explain and demonstrate the technologies – one for each pilot project. An additional, interview-led, film will give an overview of all the technologies being tested.
The Piloting Project is now over after four years of trials. The films will be presented to the EU Commission & Piloting Consortium, who financed the projects, as evidence of successful investment.
Antidio Viguria, Project Director from Catec said “From my more than 20 years’ experience with film crews shooting robotics projects, Signal have shown the most professionalism and ability to capture the storyline with just a few words. 100% recommendable for shooting your robotics experiments.”.
Our team have had a wonderful time working on this project over two years. We look forward to seeing how the innovations will be used commercially around the world. You can watch the overview video here.
