We’ve just completed production on an exciting mini documentary for marine and energy experts, Wärtsilä, showcasing complex engineering challenges replacing thrusters on a drill ship on the island of Curaçao in the Caribbean.

This turnkey maintenance programme, highlighted the technical expertise of Wärtsilä and the strength of their long-standing partnership with Noble Drilling, a collaboration built on trust, innovation, and a shared commitment to operational excellence.
Our filming pre-production period was limited, with only a short window to plan logistics filming thousands of miles away, co-ordinate interviews, and ensure we had everything needed to capture the scale of the operation. Despite the challenges, our team moved quickly to make it all happen.
The filming took place on Curaçao, an island famous for its vibrant culture, Dutch colonial architecture, and stunning turquoise waters. It also served as the perfect backdrop to document a high-stakes engineering feat in these crystal-clear waters. Much of the filming took place underwater, using cameras to capture Wärtsilä’s experienced divers at work.

Throughout the project, it was clear how Wärtsilä’s experience and Noble Drilling’s operational expertise complemented each other. Their teams worked together, demonstrating their meticulous attention to detail, problem-solving, and mutual respect. The teams’ collaboration ensured the vessel remained at peak operational performance.
Through several expert interviews from Wärtsilä and Noble, together with some compelling behind-the-scenes footage, the documentary captures the scale of the operation and the dedication of the people behind it.

Wärtsilä trusted Signal to undertake the project due to their understanding of this type of industry and their knowledge and experience with complex international shoots. We’re delighted to have been able to demonstrate our capabilities once again in this field.
Client feedback has been very positive with the team saying “It has a strong hook at the start, and the aerial and underwater shots are really striking.”
This is the first episode in a series that Signal will be involved in. You can watch the full film here.
