The Signal film team have completed a series of four films for DeepOcean and TotalEnergies.
Our team was tasked with telling part of the story of the decommissioning campaign, for the disconnection and tow of the TotalEnergies Gryphon Alpha FPSO, as well as the removal of associated subsea infrastructure.

Gryphon Alpha was the North Sea’s first purpose built, permanently moored FPSO, and was originally commissioned by operator Kerr McGee. The asset was later acquired by Maersk Oil and then by TotalEnergies. The field exceeded expectations, producing more than 250 million barrels of oil equivalent over three decades of operation.
The Gryphon decom project involved the flushing, isolation, and controlled disconnection of mooring lines and production and gas lift lines spread across the field. In addition, new pressure-retaining blind flanges were installed at critical points throughout the site. This marks a first, with proprietary tooling designed and developed in-house enabling the entire scope to be executed fully diverless.

Traditionally, this type of work would require a Dive Support Vessel and a team of saturation divers. But in a move reflecting innovation and efficiency, the team utilised a vessel equipped with advanced Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV’s) to complete the job safely and efficiently.
With years of experience in subsea engineering and marine operations, DeepOcean showcased their skills in navigating a challenging decommissioning campaign.
Signal helped convey the engineering complexity of the project, illustrating how DeepOcean’s robust knowledge and experience directly contributed to its successful completion. From pre-mobilisation in Aberdeen and Norway, to the offshore campaign, we filmed on deck, in the control rooms, with the ROV pilots and interviews with key contributors offshore and in the office. We captured the bespoke technology in action, the problem solving from the teams, the technical challenges and teamwork between the UK and Norway.

Our goal at Signal is always to tell stories that matter. We specialise in telling complex industrial stories with clarity, creativity and authenticity.
Signal is Aberdeen’s leading video production company; based in Scotland with the ability to film onshore and offshore, anywhere in the world. This project continues its long-standing partnership with the global energy and engineering sectors, producing award-winning films that combine technical accuracy with impact.
