A Rewarding Year

Christmas is a time for bling, so we’re delighted to have won another shiny award: “Best Animation & Digital Media Production Company 2023” given by the SME News Scottish Enterprise Awards. This is the second consecutive year we have been recognised by SME News – in 2022 we were named “Best Video Production & Animation Company”.

And it comes hot on the heels of our win at the US Festivals for our work with P&J Live. 2023 was another busy year, we produced almost 100 films. Here are some highlights:

ANIMATION

We created some stylish animations this year including; technical 3D animations for HydraWell, an engineering company who have developed a range of tools specifically for Plug & Abandonment of oil and gas wells. Later in the year Equinor commissioned us to produce two new 2D animated visitor inductions for visitors to the Dogger Bank office and Operations Base.

We also made a 3D explainer animation for the North Sea Transition Authority, about Carbon Capture and Storage. Most recently, we created some complex CGI visual effects to enhance the live action films we’d made for ICR Integrity.

LIVE ACTION

2023 took our film crews to many exciting locations. We filmed robots in France (for Chevron) and bin lorries in Leicester (for Biffa). We filmed on boats (for Shell, Vestas and Marine Scotland) and beaches (for Elemental Energies and Equinor) on buses (for FirstBus) and helicopters (for CHC).

Our BOSIET certified crew went offshore to film oil rigs in the North Sea (Harbour Energy) and Gulf of Mexico (for Noble), which meant flying out on the helicopters we’d filmed! And we were the last people to film on board Brent Charlie (for Shell) before its upcoming decommissioning. We put 100% into our work, no matter the place, no matter the subject.

CLIENTS

We were delighted to work with several new clients this year including Aberdeen City Council, BlueFloat Energy, and Noble, for whom we travelled to America to capture footage of their new Operations Centre in Houston. And it was a milestone year for our longstanding client Port of Aberdeen which, as well as welcoming its first cruise ships, tall ships, and jack-up rigs, also hosted visits from the First Minister and HRH Princess Anne, who formally opened the harbour in October. This inauguration event was the culmination of several years of planning and construction, all of which we captured, and which will soon be available as a documentary.

As you can tell, it’s been an exciting year for Signal. We’re not in it for the bling, but these awards acknowledge how hard the team have worked this year. Whether creating bespoke live action films or 2D and 3D animations, we’re very proud of the work we’ve done this year, and appreciate the recognition of this award. As we look forward to next year and working with our brilliant clients.
